Soil air probe S‑2388

The soil air probe is an efficient tool for analyzing the air present in the soil.

Sampling can either be targeted from a defined area of the unsaturated soil zone or integrative from a pre-surveyed borehole with a surface seal.

Volatile gaseous substances from contaminated groundwater or soil diffuse into the free pore space of the surrounding soil. By sampling and analyzing the soil air, these volatile substances, especially halogenated hydrocarbons, benzene, fuels, and aromatics, can be detected in the soil.

Soil air measurements are suitable for identifying contamination hotspots and pollutant distributions in the soil, as well as locating contamination plumes in groundwater. Furthermore, leaks, pollutant drifts, and contamination sources can be quickly and easily determined.

The probe can be directly inserted into the depth of the soil to be investigated. Subsequently, the capillary probe is inserted into the probe and penetrates the airlock in the probe tip. This opens the probe tip, allowing air to be drawn from the surrounding soil through a pre-mounted test tube or measuring device using a pump. The airlock prevents the exchange of atmospheric air and the soil air under investigation.
